Charlie Tawse
For Charlie Tawse, golf is more than a game it's an addiction. Tawse was introduced to the game by his father, who was a golf professional in Scotland. In 1951 Tawse migrated to the U.S. with his family at the age of 15. As a teenager, Tawse played in all the junior and caddy tournaments in Illinois, with great success.
He left Chicago University after one semester because all he wanted to do was play golf. On the recommendation of Johnny Revolta a former PGA Champion, Tawse turned professional and served his apprenticeship under Revolta's guidance.
When Tawse was drafted in the U.S. military, he was assigned to special services for two years, playing and teaching golf. After his service, Tawse taught at various clubs in the Chicago area before becoming an instructor at Ben Sutton Golf School in 1993. Tawse played on the U.S. and European professional tours off and on for a few years.
Tawse considers himself one of the few people who can say they have never worked a day in their life, and likes to add that his entire life has been one big round of golf. Not a day goes by that he does not learn and share more about this great game with his students.
What our students have to say about Charlie
Morrie and I played our course with another couple. I got myself "ready" the night before and morning. We teed off at 1 and promptly got an 8 and 9 (it was shot gun so we started off on eight and nine- first was a par 5 and the second is our #1 handicap hole..so you are saying "so?") Anyway from there it was great. I was playing one, two or maybe three over par..with two pars along the way and only one 9. My putting was my weakest part of the game. My drives are longer and straighter so I need to readjust my clubs. My chipping and pitching were up in the air..finally ..but too strong, again. If I am going right would you say that my club face was not square or I am not coming straight across? I thought I was lined up. My husband could not believe it how well I did. I think he thought it was the best money he spent since our wedding ring!! (Yes..I am not always a pain in the b tt!!) Now he wants to come to school. So..I think I am on my way to more positive golf with some real fundamentals to work on and I have gained so much confidence. As my husband said yesterday "See, now you know you can hit a golf ball!". SO..I know you get lots of positive responses after returning from the great golf school experience but probably never tire of it either. I so enjoyed it all. I miss the sirens!
