Rick Sopka
"Young, energetic, talented, knowledgeable and passionate" are some of the words that might describe Rick Sopka and his golf career. Becoming a PGA member in 1998, Sopka is a born and raised Floridian who was first introduced to the game at the age of twelve by his father. At the time, his Dad didn't realize he was in the process of creating a monster. Sopka won several junior golf tournaments in the state from 1983 to 1987.
Prior to becoming an instructor at Ben Sutton Golf School in 2003, Sopka worked as both an assistant golf professional and head teaching professional at local country and golf clubs. He qualified for the Florida Open 3 years in a row and was the North Florida PGA winter tour runner up from 1997 to 2000.
He taught for a brief time at Roland Stafford Golf School and during this same time was the North Florida Section 2 man team champion. When he's not teaching, Sopka enjoys gardening, boating and traveling with his wife Kristine and their two children.
In Sopka's own words, "I am thankful that I have chosen this path in life. My passion for golf and my enthusiasm for the game will always be in my blood. The most rewarding part of being a teaching professional is helping my students walk away with a greater love for the game.
